Woolsey Secures More Than $22 Million for Local Water Projects
July 24, 2009
Washington, DC—Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.) has secured more than $21 million in funding for a variety of water projects in Marin and Sonoma Counties, including more than $14 million to recreate wetlands at Hamilton Airfield along northern San Francisco Bay.

“I’m deeply concerned about the quality of our nation’s lakes, streams, estuaries, wetlands, and oceans,” said Woolsey. “These natural water sources remain vital to a healthy environment. That’s why I am pleased that funding has been provided for these projects that preserve and restore our precious wetlands and protect our homes from flooding.”

The funding was part of the Energy and Water Appropriations bill and includes:

$14,250,000 to use clean dredged sediment from San Francisco Bay to restore wetlands at Hamilton Airfield

$5,139,000 to continue safe operation of Warm Springs Dam and make needed changes in salmon breeding operations

$500,000 for flood control on Corte Madera Creek

$1,500,000 for flood control on the Petaluma River

$200,000 to fund a feasibility study for a plan to restore the Bolinas Lagoon Ecosystem

Continued funding for a feasibility study for a flood control project on the Las Gallianas Creek

In addition to these projects , with Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Solana Beach) Woolsey secured more than $500,000 for the collection of field data on beaches throughout the state, and with Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Helena) secured $100,000 to help prevent fresh water discharges into North Bay.
